St John the Russian Evia

Some 30km southeast of Limni, Prokopi revolves around this enormous 20th-century pilgrimage church, named for the saint who remains central to this village's identity and livelihood to this day and whose festival is celebrated on 27 May. The church was founded by descendants of refugees who arrived in the 1920s from Prokopion in Turkey’s Cappadocia region.
