Mercado Municipal Minas Gerais

Built by the army in 1835, this public market is a popular community gathering place on Friday evening, when vendors set up stalls selling typical mineiro food, and on Saturday and Sunday mornings, for the weekly produce and crafts markets, respectively. All three events are accompanied by live music. The building’s wooden arches inspired Niemeyer’s design for the presidential palace in Brasília.
