Château de l'Empéri Pays D’Aix

One of the oldest and largest fortified palaces in Provence, the Château de l'Empéri has roots in the 9th-century, though it grew to its current immensity under the later proprietorships of the Archbishops of Arles and the Holy Roman Empire. Used as both jail and barracks during the Revolution, it now houses collections of art and military history from the time of Louis XIV to WWI.
