Bharhut Madhya Pradesh & Chhattisgarh

Today there's almost nothing to see at the ancient site of Bharhut, except the slightly raised, grass-covered outline of the Buddhist stupa, but when the site was excavated in the late 1800s, some wonderful Buddhist artworks and sculptures were discovered. The best of these are now housed at the Indian Museum in Kolkata.
